Worth Every Dime: Fire Extinguisher

I was a little grumpy when we plunked down $40 for a fire extinguisher, considering the fact that we did not know if we would ever use it.

I'm glad now! We've used it twice in the past month.

Instance one was when our lawnmower burst into flames. (Leaves+overheating motor=bad.)

Instance two was when I was grading papers and managed to set a bag AND a cloth napkin on fire.

I'm sure the expense of setting our yard on fire and/or burning the house down is a LOT more than $40.

Just some food for thought!

The Gift of What We Already Have

My husband is attached to his books, so you can imagine his distress when one went missing. Had we loaned it to somebody?

Nope.

Did I sell it on Cash4Books for some reason?

No...it was a book that was obviously his, and I would never sell something of his without him asking me to.

It had seemingly disappeared into thin air. We moved all the books on our bookcase and looked behind them, under the bed, in old backpacks...nothing!

We asked our roommate if he had borrowed it- nope! The Roommate even checked his room just in case the dog had dragged it in there. No dice.

Imagine my excitement when I found it hiding in our basement laundry room. We had moved all of our books there when our carpets were being cleaned...in NOVEMBER. I thought of calling him right away to say that I'd finally found his book, but then I had an inspiration.

Everything in our home is a gift, so why not wrap it and present it to my husband as such?

When we see the same old things day in and day out, we forget how lucky we are to have those things. We get bored with them. We forget they exist until we need them and can't find them, like my husband's book. We forget to rejoice in what we already have, and instead focus on what we want to have in the future. As I wrapped the book in leftover Christmas paper, I thought about all that I'm blessed to have.

He was overjoyed when he unwrapped it. The book had been found, I was reminded to count our many blessings, and my husband's dull day was cheered up with a bit of bright paper.

What gifts have you overlooked today?
