My husband got a raise yesterday. How does a frugal person handle such an exciting moment?
In our case, it's by doing nothing. Part of why we have been able to live on as little as we once did was by pretending that things like raises never happened. We would just quietly add the raise to our savings, creating a nice little cushion. Now we're sending most of those types of things to the Evil Student Loan. Either way, it's going towards something productive, and since we don't upgrade our lifestyle just because we happen to have more money, we won't have to downgrade if the money goes away. Just because you have it does not mean you're obligated to spend it!

And that right there is one of the most frugal things to do ever. Had we been smarter when we had half the income, we might have more in savings today.
Congrats on DH's raise! We've tried to do the same thing over the years. Of course, lifestyle does creep up a bit, but as long as your savings are adequate and your debt gone, that's fine!
Good luck paying off the Evil Studen Loans ;)
You are so smart for your age.
Congrats to Mr Homemaker Plus
Congratulations on the raise! And the way you're handling it is really, really smart. But...I think you should do a little something to celebrate. Nothing fancy, but maybe a special treat for dessert?
