Merry Christmas everyone! I hope that you're having a wonderful day.
For this Three Things Thursday, I thought I'd mention three little things we do in our family for Christmas.
1. We have pie! Christmas is not Christmas without pumpkin pie.
2. We open presents in order of age, from youngest to the oldest.
3. We stay in our pajamas most of the day.
I hope that your Christmas was restful and that this upcoming year is the start of great things for all of you. God bless!

Three Things Thursday: Three Ways We Earn Money From Home
Happy Thursday!
It's been a long year with my husband having reduced hours at work and my layoff. That surely gave us motivation to find little way to earn money on the side! I never knew that there were so many ways that you can earn money from home until I started blogging.
I'd read about all the little ways that stay at home moms pulled in a little income without much time, but I did not try any of them until the past year our so. Here's a few of the things my husband and I are currently doing. There's several more that I'll discuss later this week, but here's a few that you could get started on today!
1. Cash4Books. Do you have extra books laying around? Sell them to Cash4Books. How much you get depends on the kind of book. They pay the shipping. I don't even leave my home, I just arrange carrier pickup. For the minimal amount of effort required, it's not a bad extra bit of money. It's not going to make you rich, but little bits add up. They PayPal the funds to you promptly- I've never had a problem!
(Sidenote: I often post the books that Cash4Books does not want on Paperback Swap. That does not give money, but you can get another book from another member, which is awesome too. Get rid of books you don't want and order books you do want!)
2. Freelancing: This took awhile to get into, but I do small amounts of freelancing here and there. My biggest client is one of the universities I work for, where I critique papers for the writing center on a freelance basis. I only deal with the overflow, so it's either feast or famine. I also write pieces here and there for a variety of clients, and occasionally proofread or edit papers. I have not pursued this as aggressively as I could be, but the occasional job has added a nice chunk to our bottom line.
3. Tutor.com- This has been very lucrative for my husband. I have tried to get on for awhile, but they currently have plenty of English tutors. (I'm sad- but I keep checking!) However, my husband is skilled at higher math, and he's been tutoring Physics and Trigonometry for several months now. He just works a few hours a week and it's added a nice supplement to our income.

Three Things Thursday
Three things I really need to get done TODAY. Going out of town always completely obliterates my routine, and when we got back I had several end of semester work things to do that absolutely could not wait. Now I'm back at home for the next few days, I need to catch up.
1. Laundry- I'm going to need to hire a mountain climber to help me get to the top of Mount Washmore. I have not had this ridiculous amount of laundry in ages.
2. Clean out the fridge. There were some...er..."science experiments" left when we got back. And organic milk REEKS when it goes bad. (We left it for the roommate, who did not leave until later, and he did not drink quite all of it. Another reason to look for those manager markdowns- we're pretty sure we got our.99 cents worth.)
3. Plan our meals for the week. Crystal points out what can happen when you don't plan, and I know this dance all too well!
Off I go to get it done!

Three Things Thursday
Welcome to my new series, three things Thursday! In honor of Thanksgiving, I'm going to list three small things I am thankful for this year:
1. Being laid off from my job- It was not fun being laid off from my other position in August, but the layoff opened new opportunities. Because of the layoff, I'm closer to my ideal of working from home most of the time.
2. Meredith's Frugal Hacks post- it's true that seeing other people's success reminds us that we can do the same!
3. Being gently reminded that through every hardship, there are gains to be had.

Three Things Thursday: Making Christmas Easier
Welcome to my new series: Three Things Thursday. Every Thursday, I will give a list of three things on a given subject. This week will be three things that we do to make Christmas easier on us! I hope you enjoy this and the upcoming Three Things Thursdays!
Three Things We Do to Make Christmas Easier:
1. We order gifts online. Shopping when it's crowded and everybody is frantic and cranky makes me frantic and cranky. We try to shop year round (a great way to find deals!) but we buy what is left online. Amazon
even does free shipping on orders over $25. Problem solved.
2. We cut down on Christmas cards. I love sending Christmas cards, but the past few years have been making me grumpy. I was spending a fortune in postage to send cards to people that I did not even know. Last year, my husband and I sat down and went through our address book. This year, we're only sending to people who are close friends, close relatives, and/or people who we get cards from. This has cut down our list significantly. Huzzah!
3. We no longer travel at Christmas. This one has made us a little sad, actually, but it has simplified our holiday quite a bit. A few years ago we were snowed in to my parents home for days, and it was uncertain if we were going to be able to make it back by the time my husband needed to be back at work. It was rather stressful for all involved. After that experience, we decided that anybody is welcome to come to our home for the holiday, but we no longer travel. We do visit at less inclement weather prone times of the year. While it was a hard decision to make, it did not cause the drama we expected, and we've had people come see us over the holiday! :)
What things have you done to make your holidays simpler? How did it change your holiday? Did those changes cause drama, or did it go over better than you expected?
