Spending Fast Update II

The spending fast has gone well! We will be back on track for our March budget. Here's three things that helped quite a bit:

  1. No eating out: Eating out is our biggest spending vice! We just love to do it, and usually eat out twice a week or so! Even with coupons, etc, this gets expensive.
  2. Selling junk on E-bay: I have had several things hanging around that I kept meaning to sell. The "fast" inspired me to get off my fanny and list them, which helped our bottom line AND cleared out clutter! Bonus!
  3. Eating from our pantry: We had several delicious meals lurking in our pantry! I found a gold mine of stockpiled frozen steaks and shrimp in the bottom of my freezer- who knew that we'd be eating like kings while saving money!

March will be on track, which is good, as it is the first month without our rental income. Exciting things are afoot! :)

Spending Fast Update I

We've spent a bit much this month, so we're cutting it down for a month to try to even out our budget a bit!

So far, we've not eaten out a single time since we started out, which is pretty awesome for us. Eating out is our BIGGEST vice. We usually do it 2-3 times a week. This fast may be as good for our waistlines as our wallets!

I discovered a treasure trove of frozen veggies and berries in our chest freezer. Last night we enjoyed a rock star dinner of:

1. Pizza (peppers, onions, artichoke hearts are under the delicious cheese, all from the freezer/pantry!)
2. Salad (romaine, carrots, tomatoes- not from the freezer)
3. Berries- strawberries and blackberries layered in Irish coffee glasses (frozen berries).

Fairly healthy, delicious, and mostly from the freezer/pantry!

It can be done...with style! :)

Spending Fast!

Thanks Rob Lee!

Friends, we are hemorrhaging money! We do this every now and again- a meal out here, something new (but not needed) there, a small trip...spending without thinking. When we do this, we tend to have one bad day...that turns into two bad days, then a week- and then we cringe when we see how much we've spent. Ah well. It happens to the best of us.

We really need to get back on track, especially with the upcoming changes. We've decided to do a month long spending fast- no meals out, no unnecessary items, eating from the freezer/pantry as much as possible. I think it will be an exciting challenge! Come along for the journey this month! :)
What do you do when you get off track?
